Most people are playing a game they did not choose
Sunday musings: In a world that hands you a script, real freedom starts when you reject it. This is how I structured a one-person business around leverage, lifestyle, and legacy and how you can too.
My days do not start with a screen. They start on a bicycle. Every morning, I cycle my daughter to school.
Morning light on our faces, legs pumping, minds waking up. It is a simple ritual that grounds me.
As a father, as a creator, and as a human.
After drop-off, my work truly begins. But not with writing. As I batch create my content, I open LinkedIn and start where most creators forget to connect: in the comments, the DMs, and the conversations that don't scale but matter deeply.
Because in a one-person business, your network is not an afterthought. It is the business.
Then I shift.
Podcasts fill my ears. Books and online courses sharpen my thinking. Stories of creators, operators, and misfits who chose leverage over labour. Only then do I write.
Four hours of deep, focused work. No distractions. That is the heartbeat of my business.
Newsletters, digital products, and frameworks that compound over time. Typing is my leverage.
Afternoons are when the “optional” begins: Interviews, panels, podcast recordings, and the joyfully unpredictable parts of the creator journey.
Late afternoon, I hit the gym. Reset my body. Quiet my mind.
Evenings close the loop where it began, with my neurodiverse daughter, bedtime stories, and books.
This rhythm didn’t happen by accident. It was built through brutal clarity, countless experiments, and a refusal to accept a life I didn’t choose.
Because here is the truth: If you don’t design your life, someone else will. If you don’t create your path, you will be assigned one and wake up one day wondering who you became.
We were not born to play non-player characters in someone else’s game. We were born to create our own.
Running a one-person business taught me this: You need three habits to stay sane and scale: one to fill your mind, one to empty your mind, and one to use your mind.
Miss any of them, and you spiral. Over-creating burns you out. Over-consuming leaves you numb. This is not a hustle culture. This is rhythm. Intention. Sovereignty.
The best-known creators don’t optimise their lives around a 12-hour workday. They design their work around what matters most. They understand that leverage is not a luxury. It is survival.
Here is the part no one wants to admit: Most of what looks like productivity is motion. Real progress? That is ownership of your time, attention, audience, and mind.
That is why I don’t sell my time. I sell ideas. That is why I don’t chase clients. I attract them through stories.
That is why I am not building a business to survive. I am building one to live.
What is your non-negotiable habit?
See you next Sunday.
Whenever you are ready to stop playing someone else’s game and start designing your own…
The H.A.L.O. Masterclass begins in May 2025. It is a virtual six-week cohort experience for thoughtful leaders, creators, and one-person brands who want to write with clarity, vulnerability, and purpose.
Rooted in the Human Algorithm philosophy, this is the same storytelling system I’ve used with founders, creatives, and executives in tech, media, and social impact, helping them turn lived experience into leverage.
You will walk away with:
A storytelling blueprint grounded in your voice and vision
A published piece that builds trust and authority
A 90-day content roadmap to fuel your next chapter with intention
The cohort is capped at 12 participants to ensure personalised feedback, live coaching, and space for honest, high-trust conversations most people avoid online. There are six spots left.
If the rhythm I wrote about above speaks to you, the writing, the clarity, the freedom to build a business around your life, this is for you.
